So, my mind is, as usual, wrapped up in marketing ideas, techniques, strategies. Personally, I read and research marketing constantly. After all, everyone of us is continuously marketing something, perhaps only ourselves. Even in a job interview, you’re marketing.

The most important and single thing about marketing that I want to emphasize to you here is: marketing is NEVER about you – it’s ALWAYS about your customer.

If you’ve ever done any marketing, and if you’re doing any now, go back and read your copy.

Bottom line, the customer doesn’t care about you; they actually don’t care very much about your product. What everyone cares about first and foremost is themselves. When looking at your product, they want to know:

Features vs. Benefits

Features list factual statements about your product or service – lighted dial, more cubic feet, polished stainless steel, remote activated, runs continuously, open 24 hours, four bedrooms.

Benefits tell your client what the product will do for them -lighted dial eliminates the struggle to find the time in the dark; remote activated means less effort and steps for you; runs continuously means you won’t have to worry about turning it on and off; open 24 hours means it’s there anytime you need it; four bedrooms is a spacious family home.

In your marketing, determine how you can tweak your conversation from listing features to listing benefits. For example, real estate ads list all of the property features: number of bedroom, bathrooms, if it has a den, a fenced yard, a fireplace. Those are necessary, of course, in a property listing, but don’t forget to add the benefits: your children can walk to school; think of all the time you’ll save living close to all the available shopping; large deck in fenced backyard allows quality entertainment time with your family.

Benefits are really just a discussion of how the feature adds value to your life or theirs. But the benefits are what the customers are looking for.

Make sure your marketing is about them, not about you. Make sure it talks about how it will improve, solve, assist, ease areas of your client’s life.Stop focusing on what you have to offer, start focusing on why they want it so they’ll focus on that, too.

Mike created his great loveable hilly-Billy character, in his first ever book Titled: ‘The Fruit of My Pen,’ where within the pages, you will find many more tales, showing life how it was once lived up in the hills. All great stories that are aimed to amuse and show the reader the way of life, that was lived by men,characters like this.

The stories about Bill the cowboy and his horse, are told very entertainingly by the horse himself, as he explains all his own likes, dislikes and hilarious points of view to Bill. But it is the Hilly-billy illicit moonshine making fellow, up in the hills, that is the true star. For this greatly amusing character, lives life by trading the moonshine he produces, for food and other provisions that he is always in need of.

After portraying him so well in the first book, Mike then solely wrote his second book about him. This book Titled: ‘The Moonshiner’ soon followed with true delight to all his fans. Especially as it is the character himself, that is doing all the talking, as he tells greatly in his southern drawl, all the amusing anecdotes about his life and day to day living. This includes all the trials and tribulations that he faces, whilst attending his stills to run his illicit business. All greatly entertaining very funny escapades, that he along with his other odd ball country pals get up to. Showing true hilly-billy sense of humour, he tells just how they deal with any problems they come up against, just by living the life they do, while totally smashed with drink, all the time of course.

His friends supposedly come up daily to help him, around the shack of a house that he lives in, to do (or rather to undo) all the necessary and most needed repairs. But, nothing ever does get done right, because all they do, is sample the very strong shine, that they swear to the Moonshine maker himself, is the best there is! With every new batch they compliment him more, swearing that it is the best yet! Thus getting more and more, till they are once again all completely blind drunk and legless. So that nothing ever does gets done, but what does get done, is the job of making you the reader laugh, and tremendously so! For if you can relate in any way, to the lives that they live then you will laugh with even more gusto, at seeing all the hits and misses that they have to face in life.

These highly amusing books will certainly make a great gift for all, especially boys of any age. Michael L Schuh has written other great story books too, once you have read one of his books then you definitely want to search him out, to read his other two story books. Titled: “Mike and Joe” and “The Cross.” But as well as these great books Mike being a true believer in God, has also written, some truly wonderful poems of loving prayers, which he has now portrayed beautifully in his spiritual poetry book titled: “Spiritual Thoughts on Love and Life”.

Super Sprint Triathlon (375m swim, 10k bike, 2.5km run) and Aquathon

We are having a super fast, super fun, super sprint triathlon for all to join in. If you have ever thought about doing a triathlon, this will be a great way to start but don’t think that this is only for the beginners, the short race course makes for some really close racing and is a true test of speed. The Grenada triathlon team will be there in full force trying to prove themselves. This event is really exciting to watch, come down to Garfield’s and hang out and see the athletes put themselves to the test.
We are encouraging everyone to park at Camerhogne Park as the road to Garfield’s will be part of the course.

Registration will take place on the day from 2:30 to 3:30 pm so we can start the race on time at 4:30 pm. There is a registration fee of EC$20; anyone who joins our training team will receive a discount. The event is really easy and should only take about 45 minutes to complete. You must be over 14 or older to do the race but if you are under 14 there will be an aquathon(swim and run) on the beach for you around 5:30 pm. Or if you are over 14 and would like to do the aquathon you can. Registration for the aquathon is EC$10 for 14 and over and EC$5 for under 14′s.

The course for the triathlon: swim will be along the beach, bike to the airport and back once and the run will be one lap around Mourne Rouge. Piece of cake right?

The aquathon will take place on the beach.

For the triathlon we will have prizes for overall 1st-3rd place as well as 1st-3rd in three age categories.

For the aquathon we will have prizes for 1st-3rd in two junior categories and an over 14 category.

We will have some cool shirts for sale as well as food and a raffle going on. Of course Garfield’s will be well stocked.

Over 200 hundred athletes from Grenada, the region , USA, UK and Canada gathered at Port Louis Marina on Sunday May 1 for the 2011 Tri de Spice , Grenada’s 24th annual international triathlon and OECS championships.

Over 200 hundred athletes from Grenada, the region , USA, UK and Canada gathered at Port Louis Marina on Sunday May 1 for the 2011 Tri de Spice , Grenada’s 24^th annual international triathlon and OECS championships.

The Digicel Olympic and Deco Sprint events were the first events of the day. The lead was hotly contested for both the men’s and women’s race in the Olympic distance with the results coming down to the final lap of the run. The Olympic distance race starts with a one mile swim, immediately followed by a 25 mile bike course and then a 6 mile run to the finish line. The men’s race was won by Ancil Greene of Trinidad and the women’s race by Clare Morrall of Grenada. Clare also finished as Grenada’s National Female Olympic Champion and OECS Female Olympic Champion. Danny Donelan who came a close second overall finished as OECS Male Olympic champion and Grenada’s Male National Olympic Champion. The Sprint Distance race, which covers half the distance, was won by Inga Karasek of Canada and Akil Baptiste of Trinidad. Aislinn Noel secured the OECS Female Sprint Champion and Grenada National Champion for the women with Troy Felix winning the Grenada National Male Champion title and Andre Simon of Antigua winning the OECS Male Champion title.

The junior races ran in the afternoon with 5 junior categories, 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 plus the Try a Tri race for over 16’s. The winners of the boys’ categories were River Newman, Simon Eligon of Trinidad, Kerry Ollivierre, Allen Mohammed of Trinidad and Jamal Regis. The winners of the girls’ categories were Faith Newman, Enya Noel, Gabrielle Paparo, Chelsea Mohammed of Trinidad and Naomi Brathwaite. As part of the Junior races, 125 students from 11 schools participated in the Republic Bank Right Start Inter-school triathlon championships. Westmorland once again won the Interschool trophy after a closely contested event .

The Volkswagen 5 K run was won by Bernard Joseph and Shermica Lewis.

Congratulations to the Grenada national team who will be heading to Tobago on May 28^th for the Rainbow Cup international triathlon and then to St Lucia in September for the BMW ST. Lucia International triathlon.

The Grenada International triathlon has been selected to host the Caribbean Championships in 2012 to celebrate their 25^th anniversary.

Republic Bank continues its commitment to youth development, through Sport. The Grenada Triathlon Race Committee will host the 24th annual Grenada International Triathlon, “Tri de Spice” on May 01, 2011.  The one day event, which features swimming, cycling and running, will be held at Port Louis Marina, Lagoon Road, St. George’s.

This is the third year of Republic Bank’s sponsorship to this event, with special emphasis on the junior competition for the second consecutive year.  The category is now branded: The Republic Bank RightStart Inter-School Championship.

The Bank’s decision to fund the inter-school championship further underscores its commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our nation’s youth.  We extend best wishes to all our athletes.
